HOW TO CREATE A PHOTO ALBUM

It is easy to automatically create albums by simply copying files into a folder on the server. This may sound more complicated then it is at first.

  1. Make sure that you are logged into your computer. If you didn't log in when the computer started, you should do so now. Go to the Start menu at the bottom of the screen and choose Log out. The screen should clear and you will get a dialog box asking you for your username and password. Use the same ones that you do for checking email on the server.
  2. Open the Network Neighborhood icon and see if you can access the server. You might have to click on Entire network or something like that. You should get to the point where there is an icon for the server. Clicking on that will open up two folders - one is your account area on the server and the other is a common area for data. We have created a pictures folder in the common area for the images.

  3. Open up the pictures folder. These are where the photo albums are stored. Each album is really just a folder that contains the image files. You should see folders named "Summer_2001" and "WinterOver_2000-2001".

  4. To create a new album, all you need to do is to create a new folder. Do this by holding down the right mouse button and selecting "New > Folder". The name you give the folder will be the name of the album.

  5. To add pictures, just open the folder for the album and copy them in. That's all there is to it!
  6. You can add or remove pictures and albums just by copying or deleting the files.

One thing to note is that the image files need to end in with ".jpg" and shouldn't have spaces in them.

If you put images into the "pictures" folder itself, you won't see them. The images need to be in a folder to show up on the web page. We are trying to keep things organized, so please put a new album in the folder corresponding to the current season (Summer_2001 for example).

Go ahead and start creating some photo albums - experiment and have fun!
