HOW TO UPLOAD FILES TO THE FTP SITE
You can place files on to the server's FTP site so that people outside of camp can easily retrieve them. This
is often easier and more reliable then trying to email large data files. A common practice is to create a
folder for each science group or instrument and copy the data files into there.
- Begin by opening the Network Neighborhood on the desktop and then clicking on the Server icon. If
you are having problems, check out the
How to access the server guide.
- Once you are able to access the server, you should see the Common and FTP folders.
- Open the FTP folder. You will see the folders that are visible from the FTP site. If the the folder you
want is there, go ahead and open it. Otherwise, if you need to create a new folder, press the right
mouse button and choose "New -> Folder". A new folder will appear in the window. Name it something
relevant to the group and data you are storing there. Open the new folder by double-clicking on it.
- You can now copy files into the folder by opening My Computer on the desktop and navigating to where they
are stored. This location might be on the local hard drive, a networked drive or a floppy disk. Once you
have found the files, highlight them and drag them to the folder on the FTP site.
- You should now be able to view the files from the FTP site via the web. Go
and try it!
