WIRELESS NETWORK PARAMETERS
The default wireless network parameters are sufficient to gain access to the network. Once the drivers have
been loaded, you will be presented with the Add/Edit Configuration dialog. It is here that you can set
the wireless parameters. You can always get back to this dialog via the Client Manager software located in
the program menu. You will also need to set the Windows networking parameters. We will do that in the
following section
- Before you can finish the driver installation, you must set the wireless network name. The OK button
of the dialog will remain disabled until you do so. Click on the Edit Profile button to set the
parameters for the default profile. If you already have a wireless profile for another site, you will
want to create a new profile for Summit Camp. We use an Access Point to connect to the network, so
make sure that is set.
- The most basic wireless parameter is the network name. The wireless network at Summit is an open network
and will accept connections from any client. You can therefore give the general "ANY" name for the
network. The actual network name is "SummitCampNetwork". Enter either into the dialog.
- The remaining parameters can be left in their default states. We do not use encryption or have any
complicated setup. For completeness, here are what the other tabs look like.
- Click on OK to finish the install. Windows might prompt you for the Windows CD-ROM at this point.
You usually will have the files that it is looking for already on your hard drive. These files are
called "cabs" and can be found in C:\Windows\Options\cabs or C:\Windows\System. Sometimes you can
click on a browse button to pick the folder. I have also seen systems where the browse button is
missing and you must type in the folder name.
- Windows will then ask you to reboot the computer. This restart is necessary to activate the new drivers.
