The communications at the site have undergone a significant upgrade. Previously, communications were limited to HF radio and an Inmarsat-based telex system. Following the upgrade, the site now has a fully functional Internet connection and phone service. These services are provided by a 64 kbs VSAT satellite link. The services are distributed throughout the camp with an IEEE-802.11b wireless local-area network. A researcher can now deploy an instrument anywhere within the camp area and access it remotely.
